Comment on a comment

I just clicked off on a comment that I cannot now find.

Someone anonymous said that converts shouldn't comment on conversions because we're biased.

1) This is a blog, not a legal forum. I have whatever opinions I wish. If you don't like it, don't read my blog.

2) Opinions on this issue held by converts and conversion candidates run across the spectrum. Some are permissive to almost anyone who wants a conversion. Not everyone who wants an Orthodox conversion should be converted. However, there are converts who will encourage a woman with a Facebook profile picture depicting her breast falling out of the skimpy dress she is wearing in the picture.

The other half of the comment said that converts are lesser creatures and this is proved by the fact that they can't marry kohanim.

Do NOT be so ridiculous! I'm sure this person thinks less of divorced women, too.

My my my. Every individual is biased, and in my experience, converts are not posessed of less judgement than anyone else. Maybe nobody BUT converts should be allowed to comment on convesions? Maybe it should be like making ethnic jokes only about your own group?

"The other half of the comment said that converts are lesser creatures and this is proved by the fact that they can't marry kohanim."

His logical train of thought is less than Talmudic. Cohanim aren't allowed to go into a cemetary; since burying the dead is defined as THE "chesed shel emet" ("true loving kindness"), I suppose cohanim should be either less obligated in the mitzva of chesed in general. Or maybe you could conclude that cohanim are less charitable than other Jews? This schmo should leave logical inference to those more intelligent and learned than he. Such people shouldn't be hard to find.

Hashem is on the side of the persecuted, and we have the best yichus there is. Those who mind, don't matter, and those who matter, don't mind.

  2. it is true what the "anonymous" poster said. Gerim are both the worst and best of Israel. That is Torah, raw, real, honest but most of all complete! There are those who support gerim who like to point out all the positive and those who dont like gerim tend to only point out the bad. In objective truth they are both correct according to the Torah but invidivually they only have half the truth. Together they are a full cluster of emess. That withstanding, these days according to the gadolim we are suffering from a spiritual plague which means most gerim are scabs. However, there are some pearls in the mudd which prove the rule. And lets face it there are alot of really really really bad halachic jews such as Bernie Madoff the ganof! So there is no need to put gerim down when we already have halachic jews committing daily desecrations. THis is why we should be more like HKBH and judge everyone by action not by yichus...
