Shidduchim Bullies

While I'm on the train of thought of bullies in the Jewish world, let me take a moment to feature "shidduchim bullies."

Just in case people dare to stand against the Talmud Bullies and use some common sense instead of blindly following them, we have the Shidduchim Bullies. These are the women in the community who will tell other women in the community, "if you don't tow the line and do X, your children will never get married." If you use a shopping cart... your kids will never get married. If you wear a tichel instead of a sheitel, your children will never get married. If you don't send your kids to the right summer camp, they will never get married...If you don't use the right white damask table cloth on Shabbos, your kids will never get married.... and so on and so forth. Never mind the fact that they could marry the children of other parents who have enough brain to think critically. The fact is that these women use this phony concern and scare women, absolutely scare the crap out of them. WTF is wrong with us that we let this go on and no rabbi or rebbetzin seems to be speaking out against it?

  1. Yes, those carts people use to transport their laundry or their groceries in NYC.

Still stumped - is that *really* a barrier to shidduchim? What do 'they' recommend you use instead (apart from a car)?

  4. I know a woman who told me another woman in the community told her this over and over.

I guess you can only buy two bags at a time... in all fairness, grocery stores usually offer delivery for a fee. I either pay for delivery (and get a lot at a time) or I wear an empty back pack to the store and come home with my back pack and my arms full. I also stop on my way home from places all the time. I don't own one of those carts. That's because I'm a little snobby like that. For laundry, I use a suitcase or my A-bag from the Army on rare occasions like today when I go the laundromat in a little bit. I don't the anything with wheels is such a great idea in this snow.

  5. The Torah clearly tells us that we're supposed to get in our car, drive around the block several times till we can find a parking space, and then shop in the store around the corner from our house. Or send the maid shopping with her shopping cart. She doesn't have shidduchim to worry about. You DO have a maid, don't you?

  6. And of course, should you play the moser and even HINT that there is criminal/deviant behvior in the frum world, your kids will never get shidduchim.
